I’ve been working at ROC three days a week now for the past two months – and what an incredible two months it has been! Every day is different, whether it’s meeting new people/volunteers, helping vulnerable individuals, outreach within the community as well as daily shop duties.
I’ve always thought of Reach Out To The Community as one of Chorlton’s best treasures, however I was completely unaware how much Steph and Becky go above and beyond to ensure that rough sleepers are taking the right steps to change their lives for the better. Steph and Becky’s perseverance is truly inspirational as there is an incredible amount of work that goes on behind closed doors; from prepping food and clothing parcels, taking ROC clients to appointments, to arranging furniture donations for individuals who have been housed. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of such an amazing community full of like-minded people who want to make a difference in Manchester City Centre and the surrounding areas.
No-one should be in a position where they are struggling to keep a roof over their head, no matter what situation they are in. ROC is a community hub to bring everyone together, from the people who need our services to the people who are willing to help provide the services. I am really looking forward to the future of ROC and I am hoping my past experience will encourage community engagement and solidarity. Just from working in the shop alone, it’s amazing to see what a difference a day can make, a truly rewarding job.”
